  1. V1-6 God is omniscient
  2. V7-12 God is omnipotent and omnipresent
  3. V13-18 God is my loving creator
  4. V19-24 He is my God

Last week we learn about some of the attributes of God. An attribute is a quality, character, or characteristic ascribed to someone. We can identify but not fully comprehend God’s attributes. Though we cannot put God in a box, and there are not enough words to describe them, they are helpful to know Him better. They are useful to mature and grow and be firm in our walk.

In this psalm, we can identify that:

  1. God is omniscient. He knows everything and knows you. V1-6
  2. God is omnipotent. He can do everything according His will. V7-12
  3. God is omnipresent. He is everywhere. He is here. V7-12
  4. God created you. He is with you.

It’s very common to lose the focus on these truths because our flesh.

In this Psalm, dear friend, we will be learning/refreshing about these attributes of God, as we did last week.

Remember: In this passage, the intimate and personal relationship between God and man is shown as it is: a fact. A relationship where God knows everything about us. And now, we want to know Him better. He loved us first, now we love Him (1 John 4:19)

After getting start knowing more God, we will be transformed. Nobody in the history who started knowing and had an encounter with God continued being the same.

God’s knowledge of personal life is stated in this Psalm. He knows everything that cross our mind and every single action we take. It is overwhelming and amazing how infinite is God. The God who created all without effort.

Praise Him! He knows me, He knows you. I know He knows about everything, but more amazing: HE KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT ME and YOU! It is personal!

There’s nothing I can fool or impress Him with. This fact removes a big weight of my shoulders: God knows me as I am, and He is transforming me every day. He knows the reasons. He has the plan. Everything is in His hands. The only thing I can try to do is to be obedient and sensitive to His voice (This is a must do).

This is overwhelming and brings me to another very important matter: leads me to worship Him for who He is.

“O Lord” should be my first thought every morning. Should be my celebration, my joy, my happiness, my indescribable feeling… Should be my first thought in trials and difficulties also. Call to Jehovah’s name. It denotes our surrender to Him only.

He knows our debilities and everything we struggle with. He equips and protects us. He is our wall, our barrier, our protection, our strength, our help, our renew, our refreshment, our limitless fount of life and love. Nothing will happen without His permission. Rest on His power and His control. He is bigger than us: Recognize this and be humble!!!

His is always before me, He is always behind me. What a wonderful peace this means to me. He laid His hand to me and delivered me from my old life; He protected me and He’s doing it now! He is transforming me every day.

And lastly, we learn that the perspective now should be seeking the light in the apparent darkness (that is Jesus). He will walk with us and lead us through the difficult times (sometimes they look like dark for us, but we are not seeing the light -that is HIM).

V13-18 God is my loving creator

Psalm 139:13-16

We can read in these verses that God knows and care personally of us since our mother’s womb. He knows us before our birth.

The love of God is that amazing that He is caring for us since the very first moment in our life. We can find several scriptures showing this caring and His purpose in our life. God loved me since the first moment.

For instance:

“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; Before you were born, I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 1:5

Our lives should be an entire life of worship and praise to God. Everything God does is just, perfect and incredible. Can we see it? It’s not hard. We can see it in the nature, the seasons, the universe…

The knowledge God has of us is enough to cause us to worship. God created us with such caring that He knows us exactly. He has formed us according His will and our lives are being transformed every day to His image.

As Christians, we cannot be in favor of abortion. God is forming us since the first moment of conception. This Psalm demonstrates that God sees another person in the mother’s womb.

There are several scriptures where we can learn about it

Job 10:10-11

10 Did You not pour me out like milk,
And curdle me like cheese,
11 Clothe me with skin and flesh,
And knit me together with bones and sinews?

Job 31:15

15 Did not He who made me in the womb make them?
Did not
the same One fashion us in the womb?

Psalm 22:9-10

But You are He who took Me out of the womb;
You made Me trust while on My mother’s breasts.
10 I was cast upon You from birth.
From My mother’s womb
You have been My God.

Psalms 119:73a

73 Your hands have made me and fashioned me;

Isaiah 44:24

24 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
And He who formed you from the womb:
“I am the Lord, who makes all things,
Who stretches out the heavens all alone,
Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself;

Isaiah 49:1,5

1 “Listen, O coastlands, to Me,
And take heed, you peoples from afar!
The Lord has called Me from the womb;
From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name.

“And now the Lord says,
Who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant,
To bring Jacob back to Him,
So that Israel is gathered to Him
(For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the Lord,
And My God shall be My strength),

God formed us and we are His. We cannot argue this. The word formed you defines us as creation of His own hands. Every single hair, every single cell of ours. He put everything in place. He loved us first since He started to form us. We love Him now. God, the Highest, the Almighty, the Holy, the Redeemer, the Saint formed us. Every single detail of us is known to Him. That’s something we should be amazed. Our surrender should be total, our lives don’t belong to us and we should live to serve Him and learn more about Him.

God knows the count of our days. We will not be in this earth a second more or less. We don’t have the right to interrupt or take any innocent life.

Remember: He created you; He chose you and He has a plan for you; no matter that us, as human cannot see His work completely, but our only duty is to trust in Him. It’s never about how I feel or what I think; It’s about who He is. Surrender to Him, not to gain anything or to become something; but surrender for who He is. He did everything already. He should be the Lord of our life.

The problem with this is that we are so selfish that we want to know everything in the moment, and we want only the “good” things. We think that we only deserve those. We don’t know what is good to us. So rest in His power and sovereignty. He is with us and we will see the result of all the process later.

How can I not praise Him and worship Him if I can realize His work in my life and all my surroundings? How can I ignore this if I see transformed lives and lives that He is using for His Kingdom and Glory? It is foolish try to ignore this and live as if nothing is happening. Open your eyes!

In the meantime, we walk in the path that God traced to us, we can realize (not fully comprehend though) that everything He has prepared to us is perfect. It is the walk in faith and trust what allows us to be amazed with all those precious thoughts and caring. He is providing anything that we really need not what we want. Recognize His providence and goodness!

1 Samuel 7:12

12 Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.

It’s an infinity of blessings and events that the Lord controls and prepares for us. Again, we cannot see the magnificence of God in all His plans and we, as humans, realize that there’s no way to figure out all the picture in advance and even in the moment that everything is happening.

Psalm 139:18b

Verse 18 supposes a real desire of being with God. I can fall sleep thinking of Him and then wake up and still thinking in Him. Our lives should be like this: a real relationship with the loving God. Our loving Father.

The only way I could know God’s thoughts and will is walking with Him. That’s the only logical manner. How could I know somebody if I don’t spend time with that person? Fall in love of Him, Christian. Be intentional. Remember when you fell in love for the very first time. You wanted to spend every moment with that person, know her or him better, call or text every moment… The same – and more important than any human affects- is my relationship with God. I should desire be with Him all the time. We will be with Him all the eternity. We will be worshiping and adoring Him. We should start practicing now!

The love for God is secure and perfect! You will find God if you seek for Him. You will have only but love, excitement, wisdom, instruction and correction, Truth. Everything we need for our life is in Him.

He loves me and I need to dedicate the best part of my day to Him as I say I love Him.

V19-24 He is my God

Now we know some characteristics and attributes of God, will you surrender to Him to be broken and transformed? What will you start doing with this? How will you behave from now on?

Psalm 139:19-22

The world speaks evil and hates God. Is very common now to hear comments against Christianity and in other places we can see even extreme rejection and violence. Jesus Himself experienced this. He was crucified in hands of the world. How can we expect something different?

Our duty should be: to be separated of this world and seek Him only and please Him only. The separation from the world is a personal choice and we need to be intentional on it. However, we are dependent on God and need to pray to Him for strength, wisdom, examination and leading.

Talking in the context of the worldly riches:

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon” Matthew 6:24

The way of evil is broad. We will find in this way the wicked person that is always talking and doing evil things. He delights in doing evil and his life is just a party of lust and sin.

The immorality, the violence, the lies, the perversity and sexual depravation are examples of the wicked life. It’s not enough to him or her to live like this but to drag others to it.

The wicked person has easy to speech. Can convince weak people to do the wrong, saying that is not that bad and there are others worse than you. Starts with simple things as gossip and start going up little by little, as profanity, as blasphemy, adultery, drunkenness, violence. Starts with smalls actions, but the snowball starts running downhill getting bigger and bigger, becoming unstoppable in our strength.

It is wisdom to avoid places, to avoid people, to avoid circumstances which can lead me to sin. Prudence is now in my heart, so I will keep my testimony in front of people clean. I will honor God with my life

God is just. He will judge the hearts. The godly man will dwell with Him to worship and adore Him for eternity. The wicked will be cut off.

He chose you as His child. Then, you should walk as one. We need to honor our Father. His is the Lord and our lives should be surrender to Him only. It is a daily walk.

We are IN the world, but we are not OF the world (1 John 2:15-17).

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

It’s the way behave how we show the world and witness Jesus.

As mature Christians, we cannot be part of sinful activities nor consent these. Remember, the biggest sinner I have ever met is me. We cannot go around just blaming situations and others for my own sin. It’s our responsibility! We make our own decisions, and our decision SHOULD be not to sin.

Finally, Psalm 139:23-24

Ask God to search our hearts must be a daily prayer. God will show us our flaws and we can ask Him for strength and wisdom to be more like Him.

It’s about transformation and sanctification to get our final goal and prize that is Him alone in the heaven.

Being aware of all God’s perfection and love; how can I still speaking evil and doing even worst? I should pray every day to God show me the areas I need to work and be transformed as His image (it’s a difficult job and a day-by-day task).

I need to be intentional and show others God’s grace and love. Also need to be firm and (lovingly) teach what they are doing is not correct.

I need to be consistent in all I preach and talk, with my actions, thoughts… Even my public and private life should be consistent, and I need to reflect Christ’s light to others by example and testimony. Joyful and kind, gentile; but also sharing all the process as I’m not perfect.

16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:16

So, dear friend: You have been given everything. What you will do about it?

  1. God is omniscient. Don’t try to know everything. Try to know Him.
  2. God is omnipotent. Rest in His power.
  3. God is omnipresent. Find Him in prayer, in the Word.
  4. God created you. Seek Him!

He is God. Will you get to know Him closer and let be transformed?
