Root Words | Acts 1:1-5 – Many Infallible Proofs

Many times, after some blockbuster movie, the popularity of the movie causes such a stir that a few years later, the moviegoers still want to know about the characters, and this causes the movie producers to make another movie. For the most part “Sequel’s”, as they are called, never rise to the expectations that the audience desires.

            It may interest you to know that the book of Acts is actually a “sequel”. We are informed of this in the very first sentence. The author (Luke) records the story of Jesus in the lives of people who then carried His message from a small group of Jewish believers gathered in an upper room in Jerusalem to thousands throughout the known world. In fact, by the time the 30 years of this book had passed those against its message would say, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.” (Acts 17:6) Furthermore, from the over 2000 years since Jesus and His message have come, we too are a part of this Sequel. The only question that remains unanswered is are we turning the world upside down for Jesus?  In Martin Lloyd-Jones book, “Authentic Christianity” the author asked the question, “What is Christianity”! The answer he asserted is to be found in the study of the book of Acts. It is my prayer that BVCC will NEVER change the message to fit the culture but rather that the message of Jesus and His life visibly seen in how we live, and love will instead change the culture! When this happens we too will hear, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too!”
